I have several children. Can
they all use FlashCard Magic?
FlashCard Magic Home Edition can be used by up to 5 children on a
single computer. |
|
|
Why is the
download from the Web so large?
FlashCard Magic is designed to run on all 32-bit Microsoft Windows
platforms from Windows 95 through Windows XP. The Setup file must
therefore include any components/files that were either not
originally included with the operating system or have been updated
since the operating system was first released. In addition,
FlashCard Magic utilizes the latest technologies from Microsoft
which helps ensure an enjoyable and trouble-free computing
experience. |
|
|
How long
does it take to get set up and running?
Once you have purchased FlashCard Magic, you will receive an e-mail
containing download instructions for downloading FlashCard Magic
from our web site. Once downloaded, the setup takes only minutes to
complete. Your child then enters their name and immediately takes a
placement test in order for FlashCard Magic to determine the
appropriate starting level for your child. No additional parental
intervention is necessary after the initial installation. |
|
|
How do I set my child's level to match what they are learning in
school?
It is recommended
that you child start at the level determined by the results of the
Placement Test. If you feel the placement test results do not
accurately reflect you child's current skill level, you can opt to
have your child retake the placement test. If you still want to
change the game level, choose Game Settings from the Player menu.
The Game Settings Wizard is displayed. Choose Change Game Level,
then click Next. Select a game level from the list, then click
Finish. |
|
|
Can my child retake
the placement test?
Yes. Choose Game Settings from the Player menu. The Game Settings
Wizard is displayed. Choose Change Game Level, then click Next.
Click Re-take Placement Test, then click Finish. |

How do I know
if my child is making progress?
There are two methods for viewing your child's progress: Report Card
and Progress Charts. Simply start FlashCard Magic and log in as your
child. On the Welcome window, choose View Report Card. Choose the
Show All Scores option to view all scores to-date. Scores
highlighted in green indicate that your child has met the goals for
that level and has therefore progressed to the next level. You can
also click the View Progress Charts button on the toolbar (or choose
Progress Charts from the View menu) to display a line graph of your
child's progress. If your child is progressing, you should see the
line steadily rising from left to right. If your child is not
progressing, it could mean that your child is not practicing often
enough or the time requirements are too restrictive.

My child's score is consistently above the goal score but my child
cannot seem to complete the game within the goal time. What can I
do?
Typically, a
child will get faster as additional games are played until they
finally meet the goal time for the current level. There are some
children however that cannot recall their basic math facts fast
enough to meet the goal time. There are several possibilities for
this. One is that the child is not practicing often enough to build
long-term memory retention. Practicing more often will help.
Another possibility is that the child is counting on their fingers
or in their head rather than recalling the math facts from memory.
Simply observing the child play can determine whether this is the
case. If so, encouraging the child to use the Show Answer button can
help.
For those children that have difficulty recalling facts from memory,
changing to the "Relaxed" curriculum will increase the goal time for
all levels. To change the curriculum, choose Game Settings from the
Player menu. The Game Settings Wizard is displayed. Choose Change
Game Level, then click Next. Select the "Relaxed (25% more time)"
curriculum, then click Finish. |

How do I remove the
Joe Sample player?

Sample, sign out of FlashCard Magic or start FlashCard Magic if it
is not already running. On the Player Sign-in window, select Joe
Sample from the list of players, then click Remove Player. |

I'm thinking of upgrading my child's computer. Do you have any
recommendations?
There are many computer manufacturers to choose from. The main
concern you should have as a consumer is whether the company from
which you purchase your computer will continue to support your
system in terms of warranty and system upgrades. In our experience,
both Dell and
Gateway provide a value that is
difficult to beat in terms of price and more importantly, have
outstanding customer support that will ensure your computer will
continue to run smoothly and can be easily upgraded in the future.
While local stores often have "discount" computer systems, the real
value of purchasing from Dell and Gateway will be realized when it
comes time to upgrade the computer (memory, sound card, video,
operating system, etc.) If you have ever tried upgrading a computer
on your own, you understand the difficulty in finding compatible
components, drivers, etc. Both Dell and Gateway take the pain out of
purchasing and maintaining your computer!
